For many years, I did not know God could speak to an individual. As a child, I did not have a point of reference for this experience. For the first few years of my life, I was in denominational churches. Then at the age of ten years old I was introduced to what is commonly called a “Word (of Faith)” church. It was there that I learned about the Holy Spirit and how God will speak to His children through the Holy Spirit. My life was forever changed. I continued in the Word and eventually received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the Bible evidence of speaking in other tongues at the age of fifteen years old during a church youth camp. I received my personal prayer language! This experience brought remarkable peace in my life. From then to now I have been continually growing in my relationship with God and my ability to hear and speak to Him.
God is always desiring to speak to us. We were created to fellowship with God (1 Cor. 1:9).
So the question remains, “How do I hear the voice of God?” This might seem spooky to the average individual. They might think you a little weird to think you can hear God’s voice. However, we were designed to hear the voice of God. God is an intelligent being, I hope you would agree. Why would He create a creature in His image and likeness and not want to communicate with them? Simple logic would tell you that God desires to talk to you. God has designed us to desire to know, hear, and understand His voice, nature, and character.
Logic should tell you that if you are able to create something as intricate and complex as the human, that creator would be interested in communicating with His creation.
God is always speaking, however, most of the time we have the problem with listening!
The Bible says there are many voices in the world, which is true. We must be able to discern the one voice we should be listening to. In the spirit/spiritual realm, there is much activity- godly and ungodly. Those who claim to be psychics and such are hearing a voice- from a spiritual being, but it is not of God. If you follow psychics and other “gods” be very careful; the end of that path is certain death and destruction. Recently, many people have been openly serving and worshiping a god called “the universe”. This is just another false god. We serve the God of the universe!
John 10:27 (King James Version) says that my sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
Have an expectation to hear God’s voice. Speak over yourself that you hear His voice and the voice of a stranger- you cannot and will not follow. We must apply our faith to this truth. We must expect God to speak to us.
At times God can seem distant or far away to us based on what we have saturated our life with. Is your life filled with things outside of God? Is your life filled with distractions? We must take the time to be intentionally quiet with God. We must seek to be in his presence. We must do this on purpose. The more we practice His presence, the more He will become real to us.
God desires to communicate with you, but are you willing to tune out the other voices of the world to hear Him? God designed us with the capacity to hear and discern His voice. We must take the initiative to become familiar with Him. Click here to read the many ways God can speak to you in this post.
You were created to fellowship with God. He wants your company. Commit today to make Him priority and purposefully spend time in His presence!
